Welcome to the penultimate step! 🎉 We’re about to put the yellow corners into the right position, then rotate them to solve the yellow layer which is the penultimate stage of solving the complete cube. No scary algorithms here — just your trusty Rightie and Leftie moves. Let’s twist!
The key to this step is being able to put as many of the yellow corner pieces in their right place, not necesarilly with the yellow on the yellow side quite yet.
From the example above we can put the Yellow Side in 4 positions, once of which puts 2 of the yellow corners exactly where they need to be.
Note: By turning the top layer (U) a few times you will be able to put at least one of the pieces in the correct position.
Once you have at least one piece in the correct position, we need to keep that where it is and move others around to reposition them correctly. Importantly without messing up the complete parts of the cube.
Using just the Rightie and Leftie algorithm we can swap the positions of the two top corners on the right hand side of the cube. This might not seem that useful, but in a lot of instances we just need to swap those two corners around and we can put all the corners in the correct positions.
The following illustrates this in action from having 2 yellow corner pieces in the correct place (Blue/Orange/Yellow and Blue/Red/Yellow are in the correct place) and we'll swap the other two (Green/Orange/Yellow and Red/Green/Yellow) to put them in the correct place :
To do this we need to have the Green/Orange/Yellow and Red/Green/Yellow pieces on the top on the right hand side, so turn the whole cube don't just turn the top, then do the following.
If you think about it, being able to swap the top two right hand corners is all you need to be able to do to put all the corners into the correct position.
We'll prove this by using another of the examples above where only one of the corners (Orange/Green/Yellow) is in the correct place
Let's put it on the right hand side by turning the whole cube, we'll swap it with the one at the top right back (Red/Green/Yellow).
So we're getting very close to completing the Yellow side, we just need to turn the Yellow corners so that they face the right way!
This is one of those occasions where we turn the whole cube upside down and solve this layer from the bottom, again we use just the Rightie algorithm.
The steps are as follows
To solve 'The L Shape' and make it into 'The Yellow Cross'
You need to make sure that the L Shape is on the front right as per where it starts in our demo below.
When the L Shape is in the front right of the top side, you can do the same solution as 'The Dot' and 'The Line' (I told you it was easy!)
Don't worry about the yellow edge side colour not matching up with the side it's on, we'll fix that in the very last step.
